Navy Hands Over Equipment Arrested For Illegal Oil Bunkering To EFCC

Some maritime assets allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering activities were on May 12, 2020 handed over to the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for further investigation. The equipment comprising a Motor Vessel Rock 1, Barge Julianah and two unmanned metal barges were handed over to the Commission by the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder, at the base’s holding bay, Federal Ocean Terminal Onne, Rivers State.

Navy Captain A.T. Ebo who handed over the equipment on behalf of the commanding officer, disclosed that one of the unmanned metal barges  was arrested by NNS Pathfinder on April 2, 2020 at NAFCON Creek on suspicion of illegal oil bunkering while the Motor Vessel Rock 1, Barge Julianah and an unmanned metal barge were arrested on April 22 at Agip Waterfront.

The three barges were laden with unspecified quantities of substances suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas oil.

The items were received on behalf of the EFCC by Stanley Ani Davies, a principal detective superintendent, PDS.
