Commercial Buses, Taxis Still Flouting Social Distance Order

So many commercial bus and taxi are still flouting the social distance order as directed by the Rivers Government to curtail the spread of Covid-19 pandemic, investigation revealed.

Our reporter who went to some loading point in Port Harcourt, reports that 16 and 18 seaters buses plying Rumuokoro to Mile 1,Education Lagos bus stop are still carrying passengers to the full capacity of the vehicle against the directive of the state Government.

Our correspondent observed that the same thing is applicable  for taxis plying Ikoku to Education bus stop, Park to Rumuola etc.

Checks by National Network showed that officials of Ministry of Transport, Rivers State was not present at any of the bus stop or roads visited to enforce social distance order by the State Government .

It would be recalled that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike urged commercial bus and taxi drivers to comply to social distance directive.

The Governor in a State wide broadcast said Taxi driver are to carry three passengers only, while tricycle(Keke) drivers to carry two passengers only and bus drivers are to carry 40 percent of its loading capacity.

The Governor had revealed that the State Government is considering stopping operations of commercial vehicles for failing to adhere to social distancing directive.
