Elder Statesman, Alhaji Orlu Catalogues Problems With Nigeria

…Insists On Restructuring As Way Out

A Muslim leader, and elder statesman, Alhaji  Chief  Abubakar Orlu says for Nigeria to live up to her full potentials as the acclaimed giant of Africa, it must decentralize power among its federating units.

Alhaji Orlu made the declaration in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

According to him, there is no love lost among the various ethnic groups in Nigeria because the country which is the common heritage of all has always been controlled by one particular zone.

In a true federation, all parts of the country should be given equal opportunity to aspire to the highest position in the land and must not be as it were, the exclusive preserve of one section of the country, the elder statesman argued.

Chief Orlu who is also the leader of Muslims in the South-East and South-South as well as the United Nations Ambassador of  Peace urged the National Assembly to as matter of urgent importance enact a law that will ensure the speedy restructuring of Nigeria if her unity was to be sustained.

The elder statesman regretted the lopsided nature of a nation as large and diverse as Nigeria, stressing that if nothing is done to address the anomaly and soon too, the country would collapse in no distant future.

“The National Assembly will therefore do well by restructuring the country and also pass the amended electoral bill into law without further waste of time”, Alh. Orlu declared.

On the many alleged evils of the present APC-led federal government, Alh. Chief Abubakar Orlu said elevating lies to the centre stage of administration and using same (lies) as a veritable instrument of deceiving the people is a bad omen and is synonymous with the APC government.

He said he does not see the country getting better under the Buhari administration because over 80 percent of those behind him are corrupt.

Alh. Orlu lamented the innumerable number of Nigerians that have been killed and slaughtered under the regime of Buhari especially during the elections which according  to him no longer appeal to Nigerians because of  the misery it has brought to the people.

“All Progressives Congress (APC) – controlled federal government has made it a habit to lie to Nigerians every day. Everything they told the mass of Nigerians about security and the war against corruption was all but lies.

In the past five years, we cannot boast of any tangible thing that the federal government has done to improve the welfare of Nigerians”, Alh. Chief Orlu lamented, saying the Nigerian people have been taken for granted as though they are fools.

The Muslim leader is also of the opinion that the it is high time the Nigerian government changed the crude oil dependent economy and divert attention to a more sustainable agriculture based economy, pointing out that as it stands, many countries of the world no longer depend on oil.
