The Labour Party says they are ready to take over the Brick House from the Peoples Democratic Party to enable them restore Rivers State and indeed the country to her former glory.
The state Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Engr. Samuel Kinanee Barikpor stated this in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
He disclosed that the Labour Party candidates are group of competent and visionary leaders working with unity of purpose from the bottom to the top.
On how the party is coping with the RSG order 21 and 22 that gives the opposition political parties conditions for the use of school premises for their electioneering campaigns, the Deputy governorship candidate said they had long devised unit-to-unit system of campaigns as the electorate are not found in the streets.
On how they intend to reply their opponents who attack personalities and not issues in course of their campaign, he said LP strategies is issue-based campaign convincing the electorates on how they intend to proffer solution to the decay in the land and have no time for quarells.
“Our focus is on how to prepare a government that would take the peoples welfare from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’.
“When our government comes to power, we are going to hit the ground running immediately by paying backlog of pensions and gratuities of our senior citizens among our 10 point agenda”, he said.
On how they plan to overcome rigging of the elections, Engr. Kinanee said the new electoral law which also introduces BVAS will eliminate rigging especially through vote buying or impersonation to a large extent.
“Besides, the hardship and insecurity which the incumbent administration has plunged the country makes their job of convincing the electorate very easy”, he said.
The LP Gov’ship candidate made it clear that the country is in a new era where religion or tribe will be inconsequential but candidates with capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy.
He disclosed further that LP is a party with people of integrity, adding that the hardship in the country has indeed arouse the political consciousness of the citizens to investigate and expose the other political opponents with their cupboards full of skeletons.
He also stated that when their government takes over power by the grace of God the youths will be unbundle and given sustainable employments that will keep them busy without diverting their energies to criminality.
“We shall also build a strong institution to take care of corruption which has eaten deep in the fabric of the society”.
Engr. Kinanee made it known that a new Rivers State that will benefit everybody both residents and indigenes is possible and that they are ready to make every necessary sacrifices to achieve it.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the electorate to go out and obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), vote and monitor their votes to ensure that the results are counted, ensuring that the election is not going to be as usual.
He condemned in its entirety those relying on rigging or electoral violence to come to power and promised them hard times this time around.
“Once anybody is confident of him/herself and his capacity to change the ugly situation in the country, he/she doesn’t need a short cut to win election,” he emphasized.
