PDP Sweeps National Assembly Seats In Rivers

…As Ipalibo Harry, Mpigi, Alwell Clinch Senatorial Districts 

Results so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for National Assembly elections in Rivers State showed a clean sweep by the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Of the 13 House of Representatives candidates of the PDP who contested the election on Saturday, February 25, 2023, results showed a clear win for 9 candidates with one losing to the candidate of the Labour Party (LP); one inconclusive while two results were being awaited as at press time.

The PDP House of Representatives candidates who emerged victorious include returnees Ogundu Kingsley Chinda (Obio/Akpor); Boma Goodhead (Asari Toru/Akuku Toru); Awaji Inombek Abiante (Andoni/Opobo Nkoro) and Boniface Emerengwa (Ikwerre/Emohua).

Kingsley Ogundu Chinda – Obio/Akpor

The new comers to the Green Chambers are Solomon Bob (Abua Odual/Ahoada East); Kelechi Nwogu (Etche/Omuma); Felix Nwaeke (Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo); Cyril Godwin Hart (Degema/Bonny) and Victor Obuzor (Ahoada West/ONELGA).

Boma Goodhead – Asari-Toru/Akuku-Toru

 The PDP also won all seats for the three senatorial districts.  The victorious candidates are Senator Barinada Mpigi (Rivers South East), Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo (Rivers West) and Chief Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East).

Meanwhile, there was stalemate on Tuesday morning, during the resumption of collation of the remaining local government areas presidential results at the INEC headquarters in Port Harcourt, when the INEC Collation Officer in Rivers State, Professor Charles Adias suspended the collation of results over alleged threats to his life.  

 Adias who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke in Bayelsa State, announced that his life was under threats from alleged supporters of a particular political party.

According to him, “I have been receiving threats, messages and calls to my life and that of my family for two days now. My picture is all over the social media that I was sent to rig the elections in Rivers State.

“Every one hour, I receive more that one million calls of threats to my life and other things. I hereby stand down coalition until the INEC and security agencies can guarantee my safety to continue this national assignment.”
