New Governing Council Building Complex For Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic To Be Ready In 5 Months

…Accolades, Encomiums On Wike For Approving Projects

The construction of a new and more befitting building complex for the Governing Council of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Port Harcourt was Monday, June 7, 2021 flagged-off three years after the old building was destroyed by rainstorm.

The council complex is expected to be ready in five months time.

Laying the foundation stone at the main campus of the institution, Rumuola amid fanfare, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Sen. Lee Maeba said the polytechnic occupies a special place in Governor Nyesom Wike’s mind and will get all the necessary attention from government.

Senator Maeba said besides the Governing Council Building Complex, plans are also underway to replace the old classroom block that has remained uncompleted since 1978 and will be equipped with modern-state-of-art facilities to make the place conducive for learning.

He gave kudos to the students of Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic for comporting themselves and not taking laws into their hands in demanding for government attention and most commendably, for abstaining from social vices such as cultism, etc.

Among other mouth watering packages for the polytechnic according to the Governing Council Chairman include new hostels for both male and female students and the sum of N200 million already earmarked by government for the furnishing of the Governing Council building when completed.

Sen. Maeba also commended his council members for their understanding and co-operation, describing them as committed and selfless in their service which according to him, was the reason for absence of friction among members and the school management.

He, on behalf of the Governing Council passed further vote of confidence on the rector of the institution, Dr Sam Kalagbor, being the second time such vote of confidence is being passed on the rector for his efficiency and administrative ingenuity.

Earlier, while welcoming the Governing Council members and other guests to the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the council building, the rector, Dr Sam Kalagbor lauded Governor Nyesom Wike for showing commendable interest in the affairs of the institution and for particularly approving and releasing funds for two major projects in the polytechnic namely: the construction of the two storey Governing Council Building Complex and the construction of internal roads and drainages in the polytechnic.

Dr Kalagbor described Governor Wike’s kind gestures as unprecedented in the history of the institution.

He also gave a pat on the back of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Sen. Lee Maeba for improving the fortunes of the institution since he came on board as Council Chairman.

Some of Lee Maeba’s laudable achievements according to the rector, include the change in the name of the institution in order to reflect its polytechnic status, accreditation of more academic programmes both at National and Higher National Diploma levels and renovation of workshops among many others.   

Dr. Kalagbor promised the commitment of the management of the institution to complement the efforts of the Rivers State government to make the institution a cital technological excellence.
