Visit To Tinubu: Gov Diri Insists On ‘No Wrong’ Committed
Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has said he owes no one an explanation for his visit to President Bola Tinubu soon after the Supreme Court’s decision on the presidential contest.
In response to his visit to Tinubu soon after the Supreme Court proclaimed him the election winner, Diri claimed that the opposition is uneasy and spreading false information.
It would be recalled that after Tinubu’s presidential election was upheld by the Supreme Court on Thursday, a video of Diri congratulating him surfaced.
He gave a speech on Friday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was visiting the Igbedi community in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the presidential election, Governor Diri declared that he was free to congratulate President Tinubu.
He clarified that he had come to the presidential villa to speak with the president on important state matters, and he said that the president had responded favorably to them.
“Thursday, while I was in Abuja, most of you saw the video going viral,” he stated. At this point, the opposition is agitated and is lying. That is, of course, who they are.
“I owe them no explanation regarding my visit to the president; I am a sitting governor and there is a sitting president.
“If the Supreme Court affirms the president of the country, as a sitting governor, I reserve all the rights to visit him. But beyond that, I went for very serious state business and I can tell you that Mr President attended to all the issues I raised.”
