Oyigbo People Reject Election Results, Say It Was Concocted

The Oyigbo People and residents in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State have vehemently rejected the election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the resumption of collation of results Tuesday April 2, 2019.

Speaking with newsmen at the Collation Centre in Port-Harcourt, the Oyigbo PDP Campaign Coordinator for the 2019 election, Hon John Ndubueze Nwachukwu said the results of PDP which were below that of AAC/APC as announced was not a true reflection of what happened in Oyigbo on the March 9, 2019 governorship and House of Assembly election.

According to him, “all the results we recorded at the Unit levels PDP is intact with PDP winning overwhelmingly in all”.

Hon Nwachukwu made it clear that the voting started very well and peacefully in all the Polling Units until when the INEC officers and Ad hoc staff were returning to the Ward Rag Centres for Collation of the results.

According to the Coordinator, “it was at this point that the Soldiers, Police, thugs and Chieftains of the APC/AAC went on rampage, killing, maiming and intimidating the electorates and electoral Staff in a bid to manipulate the results, contrary to what we have recorded to favour the opposition party” he noted.

Hon Nwachukwu stated further that at Ward 9, Oyigbo Urban, the soldiers and thugs allegedly invaded Ward 9 Rag Centre, shot and killed the E-Agent, one late Mr. Chijioke Azuonwu in a bid to have their way.

“Thereafter, he noted, soldiers allegedly barricaded the INEC office, Oyigbo and chased away all PDP agents and INEC staff returning from their various Wards for Collation”, adding that the siege on the INEC office lasted till 11.00am the next day, when the Returning Officer was allegedly forced, according to his confession to announce the concocted results under gunpoint.

Also speaking, the Oyigbo Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Prince Gerald Oforji recalled that the Oyigbo LGA Returning Officer made a confessional statement on March 10, 2019 which was on air in local radio stations, affirming that he announced the concocted results under duress declaring the AAC and SDP winners in Oyigbo Governorship/State House of Assembly March 9, election even with the total militarization of that election.

The Council Chairman made it known that PDP won all the 109 Units in Oyigbo because the Party not only clearly Campaigned Vigorously to the Unit levels but that the people were very ready and willing to return Gov. Nyesom Wike to power to at least reciprocate his good gesture to them.

According to him, “the real and authentic results from the Units are PDP 12,351 votes over and above that of the opposition parties.

Hon. Oforji expressed disappointment at the action of the Returning Officer, maintaining that Oyigbo People reject the results in its totality as Oyigbo is PDP any day, anytime.
