Opobo Elated Over Fubara’s Commitment to Higher Educational Institution and Infrastructure
Residents of Opobo Town in Opobo Nkoro local government area have expressed immense relief and excitement following Governor Fubara’s recent announcement to establish a higher educational institution in the area.
Among the elated Opobians who expressed enthusiasm over the governor’s initiative was the Vice Chairman of Opobo Council of Alapu, Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown.
Speaking on the sidelines, shortly after the commissioning of the highly anticipated 7km long Opobo Town Ring Road project and redesigning and inauguration of the 3.05km Kalaibiama section of the Kalaibiama-Epellema Road, Alabo Brown declared that the stage is now set for enhanced connectivity and boosting of the local economy.
The Council of Chiefs’ Vice Chair, who is also the Chairman of Opobo Elder Statesmen-4-Sim, expressed profound gratitude to the Rivers State Government for their commitment to developing the state, highlighting the projects’ potential to transform the local landscape, improve transportation, and foster economic growth.
“We believe that education is the bedrock of progress and this initiative represents a monumental leap forward for our community,” he remarked.
“Education is not just an investment in our children; it is an investment in our future. We are grateful to Governor Fubara for recognizing the potential of Opobo and prioritizing our needs.”

On the commissioning of the Opobo Ring Road, Alabo Brown said the project will not only ease movement for the people but also attract investments and create job opportunities for the youth of Opobo Kingdom.
He took the opportunity to address the young people of Opobo Kingdom directly, urging them to take pride in their new infrastructure and to play an active role in its preservation.
“These roads symbolize progress for our kingdom, and it is our responsibility to safeguard them. I implore all youths to ensure that we do not litter this beautiful road with garbage. Let us keep it clean and maintain the dignity of the kingdom.”
In addition to environmental stewardship, Brown emphasized the importance of community engagement in the upkeep of the project. He proposed the establishment of local monitoring groups to oversee the maintenance of the road and to promote awareness about responsible waste disposal.
“As we celebrate this milestone,” he continued, “let us remember that development is a collective effort. It requires each of us to contribute positively to our environment and community. Together, we can ensure that the Opobo Ring Road serves its purpose for generations to come.”
Alabo Edwin Cockeye Brown also hailed the commissioning of the 3.05km Kalaibiama section of the Kalaibiama-Epellema Road and bridge in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area.
He praised the initiative, highlighting its significance for local connectivity and economic activities.
“This road is vital for our farmers and traders, enabling easier access to markets and resources,” he remarked.
He further supported the governor’s promise to undertake land reclamation to create more space for critical infrastructure.
