2023: Egbeda People Back Omereji’s Assembly Aspiration

It was an unprecedented gathering in Egbeda Community of Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, as the people trooped out in their numbers to support the aspirations of Hon. David Omereji to fly the flag of his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and clinch the ticket for Emohua Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, come 2023.

The august event which culminated in Hon. Omereji declaring his intentions for the law-making job, took place at the community’s playground amidst pomp and pageantry.  And, regardless of their social and political affiliations, people from all walks of life turned out en masse in show of solidarity, a testament to Omereji’s fame and acceptability.

Receiving the House of Assembly aspirant at the occasion, paramount ruler of Egbeda/ Ubomini, HRH Eze Christopher Didia (JP), said the traditional institution were unanimous in endorsing his candidature based on his pedigree and numerous support to the growth of both communities.

Eze Didia applauded Hon. Omereji for his role in enthroning peace and unity amongst members of the communities, adding that he single handedly sank boreholes in nine communities of Egbeda.

The paramount ruler appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike as well as leaders of the PDP in Emohua, to hearken to the solemn plea of Egbeda people by allowing their son to represent Emohua Constituency in the 2023 polls.

Earlier in his solidarity speech, the Emohua Chapter leader of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Amb Friday Ovumgba said the youths are in alliance with the traditional institution and other stakeholders in supporting the aspirations of Hon. David Omereji to contest the Assembly seat.

Ovumgba who is also the Youths President of Egbeda Community as well as State Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (Tricycle Section), said the support from the youths will serve as payback time to a man who has sacrificed so much for the development of not only Egbeda Community, but Emohua as a whole.

“We are solidly behind a man who has sacrificed so much to the widows, less privileged, youths, students and the elderly.  The presence of current elected Councilors, Ward Chairmen, women and children from the all nine villages as well as Emohua PDP stalwarts in this occasion shows his capacity and acceptability”, he said.

In his response, the Assembly Aspirant, Hon. David Omereji said in view of the clarion call by the people, he has no option than to accept.

His words, “If I say no, I will be sent on exile, and since I don’t want to go on exile, I hereby make myself available and heed to your call.  The bible says ‘a husband man that labours should be the first to partake of the first fruit.  Hence it pleases God, who am I?”
