Rivers 2023: INEC May Delist All APC Candidates In Obio/Akpor LGA
Palpable fears have gripped the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State following feelers that it’s candidates for the 2023 general elections in Obio Akpor Local Government Area may not participate in the polls.
National Network gathered that the unsolicited development followed the inability of the APC to conduct its Ward Congresses according to stipulated electoral guidelines.
A letter from INEC dated May 19, 2022 which was addressed to the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, reported that staff of the Commission did not monitor the Ward Congress in Obio Akpor which was billed to hold on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.
The letter which was routed through INEC’s Administrative Secretary in the State, explained that when the staff received the official directive from the Commission to monitor the congress, the APC party officials reported that they had already concluded the exercise.
“So in conclusion, staff of the Commission did not monitor the Ward Congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 in Obio Akpor Local Government Area”, the nation’s electoral umpire declared in the letter.
INEC however disclosed that the Commission has received a report from the APC on how it conducted the May 18, 2022 Ward Congress.
Efforts to reach the State Resident Electoral Commissioner for comments failed as calls put across could not connect despite repeated attempts.
