Be Neutral, Independent In Discharging Duties, ACPP Urges INEC
Ahead of Saturday’s Governorship polls, the Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be neutral and independent in the discharge of their duties.
In a statement signed by the Coordinator of the group, Wole Adedoyin called on INEC to exhibit professionalism in the conduct of the July 16 governorship election.
ACPP said INEC must remain independent in discharging its constitutional mandate and provide a level-playing ground for all political parties.
According to Adedoyin, a free, transparent and credible election will not only strengthen the nation’s electoral system, but also be a pointer to the 2023 general elections.
ACPP further advised the electorate to vote wisely and choose the best among the candidates, saying Osun will be better if a man of vision is elected.
He urged the people to vote for a candidate who is ‘ready to render selfless services for the state’s socio-economic development.
ACPP posited that for the election to be peaceful and hitch-free, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) and other security formations must be neutral and ensure justice, fairness and equity.
ACPP finally alerted INEC, the international community, security agencies, observers and other stakeholders on the expediency for stringent adherence to democratic ethos in the conduct of the election.
