Countdown To Guber Election: Rivers APC, Considering Plan B?

As the curtain draws on preparations for next year’s general elections and with the fate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State hanging in the balance following the cancellation of all the party’s primaries by a Port Harcourt High Court, the APC appears to be in a political limbo.

Consequently, the party leadership is said to be considering to merge with another political party whose identity is yet to be made public.

Information from a reliable source has it that the move is to avoid a repeat of the 2019 ugly incident that shut the door against the APC following a similar court case.

Though the APC has approached the Appeal Court seeking to overturn the court’s ruling that cancelled the party’s primaries, the party may be considering the merger plan so that it will not be taken unawares.

It is also being speculated that the APC is favourbly disposed to some of the registered political parties in the state (name withheld) should it fail to launch a come back probably after exploring all legal means up to the Supreme Court to quash the possible exclusion from the 2023 elections.

The governorship candidate of the political party who does not want his name in print told National Network newspaper that he was invited to a meeting with one of the leaders of the APC in the State.

“Our discussion centered around taking over the structure of our party and adopting me as their governorship candidate.

“I am yet to give them a reply. I only told them that I will think about the plan and get back to them, after meeting with some critical members of the party” he said.

According to him, mouth-watering promises were made to me.

Recall that the APC staggeringly liaised with the African Action Congress, (AAC) in 2019 general elections after suffering the same fate, adopting Mr. Biokpombo Awara, AAC governorship candidate.

The AAC candidate, Mr. Awara adopted by the APC eventually lost the governorship election and also lost at the Supreme Court.
