End Of Road For APC In Rivers 2019 Elections

…As INEC Says It Can Not Overrule The Supreme Court

The Chairman of the Nigeria electoral body has confirmed that it can not overrun the Supreme Court ruling which bared the ruling party from contesting the state elections in oil rich Rivers State.

The Chairman of the commission made this known in a press conference in Abuja on the preparedness of INEC in the forthcoming elections in Nigeria. According to INEC statues, INEC can not go against the Supreme Court ruling.

The Apc in Rivers State has been engulfed in internal crisis.

The minister for Transport, who is also the Director general of President Buhari’s election is backing Mr Tonye Cole, a billonaire from Rivers State, who spent significantly part of his life in Lagos and overseas against Sen Magnus Abe who has been Mr Amaechi’s ally since 1999.

The APC had today written to INEC through its laweyers to re-consider it candidates in the Rivers elections in March, 2019.

The APC and the PDP are the major players in Rivers politics, but the APC may consider joining force with the Accord party in Rivers State.

The Accord party in Rivers State, also has a lingering case in court over the emergence of Mr Dumo Lulu Briggs as the party governorship candidate.

Mr Dumo Briggs used to be a close ally of the Nigerian Transport minister before he quit the APC to join the Accord party.

It is unclear if the APC and Mr Amaechi will risk supporting Dumo Briggs in March, 2019, for the Rivers Governorship election.

Governor Nyesom Wike of the PDP is now favored to win second term in oil rich Rivers State. No governor has failed to win a second term in Rivers state since 1999.
