Diobu Vigilante Renews Appeal For Govt Support
A private security outfit under the aegis of Diobu Vigillante Security Services Ltd, Port Harcourt has reiterated its appeal to the Rivers State government to support them with logistics and monthly imprest to enable them meet up with the surge in criminality which he noted, is overwhelming.
The Commander of the DSSL, Prince Amatari Bepeledei made the appeal once again over the weekend in Port Harcourt in a chat with newsmen.
He disclosed that with over 400 staff strength and inadequate office space, it is difficult to cope with the surge in criminality in the area. Lamenting that despite their complementary role to sister security agencies, the state government has not deemed it fit to come to their aid in order to ease their job especially in the area of mobility to combat simultaneous distress calls.
On the Commander’s magic wand for his success story these years, he disclosed that it is intelligence gathering tactics and quick response to distress calls.
On their relationship with the police and other sister security agencies, he said it is very cordial, adding that they work in synergy.
He further disclosed that the police sends Resource Persons on weekly basis to lecture his staff on security mattets.
“Besides, I am a qualified security expert with passion for the job which explains my successful outings over the years”; he stressed.
Asked whether it is true the DSSL detains and releases suspects at will without involving the police, the Commander denied the allegations.
He explained that their “Modus Operandi” that when suspects are arrested, the complainant is identified and they all will be transferred to the police station for prosecution. “We don’t even have enough space for our staff not to talk of maintaining a cell”. he pointed out.
On the reason for his successful outings Prince Bepeledei said it is his passion for the job and love for the protection of lives and property.
He used the opportunity to appeal to the political gladiators in Rivers State especially the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and his god son, Fubara to enter inside and resolve their differences in the overall interest and well-being of the state.
He reminded them that should they heat up the polity by their actions, especially as the 2027 general election is approaching, the criminal elements will take advantage of it with the overwhelming consequences on their job.
On whether there has been a situation they experience “jungle justice” in course of their duty, Prince Bepeledei denied such experience
“We have not witnessed any accidental discharge as we meticulously observe our rules of engagement.” On the system of recruitment into the system, the outfit Commander disclosed that it is only through community recommendations and reliable surety before anyone is engaged.
