Hon. Azeru Opara Pledges Quality Representation

The new lawmaker representing Port Harcourt Constituency III in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Azeru Opara has pledged to work assiduously with other stakeholders to justify the mandate given to him by his people.

He made this known  in a chat with newsmen as the 9th Assembly was inaugurated, adding that as a former Phalga Ward 10 Councillor, he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.

Hon. Opara stated further that as a lover of education, he would continue to grant scholarship to the 24 selected students from all the wards of his constituency in the higher institution and ensure that the beneficiaries graduate alongside as he is also completing his first tenure in office.

He equally asserted that he will work very hard to ensure that the opinion and voices of his people are heard during the tenure.

“I will equally work round the clock to sponsor bills and motions on the floor of the hallowed chambers. Infact, my people should expect proper and effective political representation from me because I will always consult them to know their priority challenges for solution,” he declared.

The lawmaker frowned at the illegal street trading in his constituency especially along the Bishop Okoye street with its attendant notoriety in criminal activities which he noted has not only disturbed free flow of traffic in the area but its now constituting nuisance and embarrassment to the host community and vowed to join forces with the Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Victor Ihunwo (whom he replaced at the Rivers State House of Assembly) to fight the menace. 

“A situation where traders and roadside mechanics leave the place provided for them to constitute nuisance on the road can no longer be tolerated by anybody who means well for the State,” he declared.

The legislator used the opportunity to give a hint on some of his achievements as a councilor of ward 10 Phalga to includes the provision of street lights and scholarship to his people which according to him is still outstanding as his legacy and that he is ready and willing to increase same this time around.

On the restriction of tricycles movement in some parts of Port Harcourt, Hon. Opara declared his full support for the policy, as according to him, 9% of crimes committed in the state are carried out through “keke” operators, adding that if he has his way, he will totally ban their operation in Rivers State.

Hon. Further disclosed that he will key into any programme or policy that will move the state forward and improve the lives of his people.
