Your Projects Should Have Economic Values, ADC Assembly Candidate Tells Lawmakers

As the 9th Assembly settle down  for legislative business across the country, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have been charged to place premium more on projects that have economic values to their constituents.

This proposition, according to a former House of Assembly Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 General Elections, Hon (Comrade) Jeff C. Moses Iyieke, would make a lasting impression on the people because of its potential returns.

Hon Iyieke who spoke to National Network in Port Harcourt during an interview last weekend, advised the lawmakers to deemphasize the provision of such projects like Town Halls or Civic Centers but rather go for markets or skill acquisition ventures, as the later, according to him, has commercial values.

He noted that projects with high economic values would have positive impact on the people and at the same breadth in his words, ‘put some monies in their pockets’ where these projects are properly articulated.

Hon. Iyieke, an eminent Peace Ambassador with the United Nations while describing the last General Elections as a ‘mixed metaphor’, said although he put his best in electioneering to win the Assembly ticket of his Constituency, the will of God, nevertheless, prevailed.

While congratulating Governor Nyesom Wike on his well deserved victory at the polls, he also felicitated with Hon. Christian Ahiakwo who picked the ONELGA Constituency 2 ticket and wished him a successful tenure, promising to offer genuine ideas for the benefit of the Constituency.

The Rivers ADC chieftain also advised the State lawmakers to uphold the fundamental principle of separation of powers, warning that they should not mortgage their conscience to the executive arm, neither should they fall to the whims of being ‘swallowed up’ due to pecuniary inducements.

“Don’t allow yourselves to become rubber stamps of the Executive arm.  You won’t remain there forever, so you must realize that someday, your surgeon to the Assembly will be a reference point.  What will your people say about you when the history is told?

“Will you be remembered for the bills you sponsored or supported, or will you be remembered for sleeping away your time at the Assembly?” Iyieke asked, comically.
