…As Police Close In On Killers Of SARS Personnel
The Rivers State Police Command says it is closing in on the killers of a personnel of Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS) who was killed by unknown gunmen at Rupokwu, Obio/Akpor local Government area of Rivers State last Saturday.
We gathered that the Commissioner of Police ,CP Dandaura Mustapha, after the incident gave a marching order to all the tactical units in the Police formation in the state to ensure the arrest of perpetrators of the heinous crime.
A source within the command revealed that the order was paying off as the Police were already working on some clues to unmask the identity of the culprits with a view to bringing them to justice.
The Police spokesperson in the state, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP) Nnamdi Omoni, told our reporter that the Police was on the trail of the perpetrators. He explained that the attack was a surprise.
DSP Omoni disclosed that the operational vehicle of the hoodlums was discovered by the Police.
The SARS personnel was gunned down by unknown gunmen at about 9:00pm while walking around Rupokwu axis.
The reason for the attack was yet to be ascertained as at press time but security pundits say in some cases hoodlums carry out surprise attacks on Police to take possession of their rifles which will be used for other nefarious activities.
Last year a SARS personnel identified as Thomas George who was said to be unit commander of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Etche Local Government area of Rivers State got killed around Choba axis.
Two Police officers attached to a brewery company were also killed in Rivers State last year June at Timber/Ojoto street, Mile 2, Diobu, Port Harcourt and their rifles carted away.The killing of the officers resulted in raiding of brothels in the area and arrest of youths found in the brothel at the time of the raid.
