A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Comrade Sokari Goodboy Sokari has commended efforts of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in fighting the coronavirus disease to ensure that Rivers people and residents remain safe and alive.
He stated this in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt over the weekend.
He commended Governor Wike’s developmental strides which he noted had touched all the sectors of the economy including security, agriculture, road rehabilitation and other infrastructure.
The former Ahoada West State constituency aspirant in the last general election however called on Governor Wike to concentrate efforts on human capital development because, according to him “the people are suffering”.
“The welfare of the people is very important. The citizens have to be empowered to survive after securing their lives,” he declared.
Sokari who is the special area chairman of the Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC) said right from inception, Gov Wike left no one in doubt that he was ready for good governance with a prepared road map to restore the state to her lost glory.
He stated that even under the challenge COVID-19 scourge, the governor is busy initiating and commissioning completed projects in the State.
He noted that: “Gov Wike’s focused leadership style, doggedness and proactiveness in fighting the spread of the disease confirmed him first amongst equals and resulted in the comparatively low figure of confirmed positive cases in Rivers State.”
He disclosed however that the COVID-19 health crisis had some inherent advantages. “The coronavirus pandemic has thought us how to live right and clean. It has also improved our health care facilities hitherto abandoned.”
The Vision Youth Development Initiative (VYDI) convener used the opportunity to appeal to the Rivers State Governor to reconsider decontaminating and opening the Mbiama Market in Ahoada West LGA as the people of the area and beyond are indeed suffering as a result of the closure.
“The people are ready to abide by all the authorities precautionary directives occasioned by the COVID-19 spread,” he said.
On the refund of federal roads rehabilitation claim by the federal government, Comrade Sokari said it was no big deal as what they eventually did was their responsibility.
“They should rather appreciate the foresight of Gov Wike for embarking on the road projects to ameliorate the suffering of Rivers citizens and residents,” he noted.
The astute politician stated that it is only when the FG commission an international flight direct from Amsterdam to Port Harcourt, make the seaports in Rivers State functional to employ her teeming unemployed youths or the establishment of train transportation from the national grid to Port Harcourt, that the FG under Muhammadu Buhari would be applauded.
Sokari used the opportunity to appeal to his fellow politicians to remain steadfast with the PDP as the only political party in Rivers State which can actualize their dreams, advising the aggrieved ones to return to the fold as according to him, “what one cannot get now would definitely come to him or her later.
What is important is for one to remain loyal and supportive to the authorities,” he advised.
