The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has slammed a political group loyal to former governor and current Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi for issuing threat to destabilize the state unless Amaechi would have his way in current crisis rocking All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a statement the chairman of PDP in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor said the party expressed displeasure at utterances by a group of APC members loyal to Amaechi in a viral video.
The party slammed misguided comments made by the group against the governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The party in the statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Hon. Sydney Tambari Gbara said the governor is a responsible leader more concerned about delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state saying Governor Wike would not meddle in affairs of other political parties.
The party also described utterances by the APC factional group as “grossly inciting, offensive and derogatory” saying they would not be accepted by people of the state.
The party in the statement wondered why politics could not be played in more “tactical and decent manner” by opposition.
Part of the statement said: “Never again will Rivers people fold their arms and watch the state being plunged into another unwarranted crisis and bloodletting by this same unrepentant and bloodthirsty faction of APC members and their self-styled Emperor… Rivers people will vehemently resist any further attempt by these miscreants to foist any form of breakdown of law and order in the state.”
The statement advised youth not to be used as agents of crises in the state and appealed to people of the state to remain calm and “go about their legitimate businesses but to be vigilant and report any suspicious character to the authorities.”
The statement said the chairman of the party, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, wondered why law enforcement agencies have not made arrests 24 hours after the video went viral on social media.
The statement said the miscreants had faces open as they issued threat.
According to the statement, the chairman of the PDP in the state Ambassador Akawor had appealed to the Commissioner of Police and Director of Department of State Security to “swing into action” and arrest and prosecute anybody in connection with the video and their sponsor to serve as deterrent and avoid re-occurrence.
The statement said the party chairman thanked the governor of the state for supporting security agents getting everything they needed for adequate security and sustainable peace.
The party emphasized the need for people of the state living home and abroad to collaborate with the governor and maintain peace and security and not incite crisis.
