Ify Nwankpa Lauds PDP Choice Candidate For Oyigbo

The Honourable Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Hon. Ifeyinwa Nwankpa has commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegates in Oyigbo for choosing, Hon. Okechukwu Akara whom she described as a man of integrity and track records as its chairmanship candidate in the just concluded LG primary elections held over the weekend.
The former Rivers State House of Assembly Member that represented Oyigbo State Constituency, Akara was elected as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate in the party primaries for the forthcoming council poll.
The returning officer and Rivers State House of Assembly member, Hon Sam Oge made the declaration after the peaceful conduct of the primary election over the weekend at the party secretariat Mirinwanyi.
After the accreditation of the delegates from the 10 wards of the Local Government and the adhoc delegates, the Electoral Officer, Mr. Joe Wezie called for the adoption of the consensus candidate.
Another State House of Assembly member, representing Oyigbo, Hon Promise Nwankwo moved for the adoption of Hon Akara and was supported by Hon (Lady) Nkolika Nwachukwu.
The Oyigbo PDP chairman, Hon Ibe Alex thanked the delegate for the peaceful election and appealed for the electorates to join hands to ensure that the PDP candidate is returned at the main contest.
In his acceptance speech, Hon Akara thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint them.
“Together, we are going to take our local government to the positive next level.
He appealed to all and sundry to ensure that PDP supporters close ranks to mobilize support for the party, adding that PDP is the only way to go.
Speaking at the side line of the event, the honourable Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Hon (Mrs) Ify Nwankpa observed that the primary election was peaceful and orderly.
“The candidate, Hon Okechukwu Akara has been tested, tried and found worthy. He can stand any opposition in any contest. He is a man of good track records”.
The Commissioner disclosed that the electorate would be mobolised to ensure that he is elected in the forthcoming LG election.
She stated further that a lot has gone wrong under the APC federal government and that its only the PDP that can rescue the nation come 2023.
“Next time when somebody is promising you “change” look well to ensure the kind of “change”, is it positive or negative change.
Also speaking her predecessor in office, Hon (Pst) Nancy Preye Nwankwo expressed optimism that Hon Akara will not only defeat all other candidates of the other political parties but would perform credibly when given the chance.
“He will change the fortune of the Local Government Area as a tested administrator”, she said.
She further stated that for the enhancement of effective participation, Oyigbo political offices rotate among the three clans of Asa, Umuihueze and Umuokobo and that this is the turn of the Okobos.
The Ward 8 Vice Chairman, Mr. Obinna Anyanwu was promoted to take over as the substantive chairman as his boss, Felix Nwogu resigned to contest for the councillorship primaries which he won and he promised to improve on what is on ground.
Some PDP Ward executives from Ward 7 (Mirinwanyi) Oyigbo local government who had romanced with the APC were sanctioned for their action by the local government PDP chairman. , Ibe Alex.
