Rivers Pioneer Female Football Administrator, Larry Ezeh, Dies At 71

Mr. Lawrence Ezeh, popularly known as Larry Ezeh who pioneered female football administration in Rivers State is dead.

A statement jointly signed by his son, Mr. Ikenna Larry Ezeh and the deceased’s cousin, Mr. Paulicarp Nwaeke, said Mr. Ezeh died on the 9th of January 2021 after a protracted illness.

The  late Larry Ezeh was the founder of Larry Angels FC, a female football team which represented Rivers State in local national and international competitions.

Although a native of Onicha Ezinihitte Mbaise in Imo State, Larry spent his life time working and contributing to the development of Rivers State through sports, particularly female football.

The statement said Larry began his working career as a Tanker Manager with Elder Demster, a British shipping company which shared office with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Harbour Road, Port Harcourt.

“It was when he resigned from the company that he established Larry Angels, now Rivers Angels the only female football team in Rivers State at the time”, the statement added.

Sometime in 2014, Larry became sick and was taken to Imo State, close to his relations for medical attention.

Despite receiving a thorough medical care, the illness, rather than abating, became worse and led to his death on the 9th of January 2021.

The late Larry Ezeh is survived by his wife, three children, five sisters, a brother and host of other relations.  Family members say burial arrangements will soon be announced.
