Sofiri Brown Asks Nigerians To Get The Future They Want

A sociologist, Amaopusenibo Bobo Sofiri Brown, has asked Nigerians to get the future they want through those elected in government.

He said that Nigerians should choose their future and ensure that they get the future they want.

He was speaking at a recent event organized by the Rivers State chapter of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in which stakeholders looked at insecurity in the country and region and offered up solutions.

Amaopusenibo Sofiri Brown, a lecturer in Department of Sociology, University of Port-Harcourt alleged that politicians would settle their future once they get political power and would not think of settling the future of majority of Nigerians.

Amaopusenibo Sofiri Brown said: “A few people who have political power the first thing they do is to settle their future. They don’t leave it for National Assembly to settle. They settle it themselves but your future and mine is never discussed and is not settled.

“We want to choose our own future. We want to choose our future and tell whoever wants to be politician to serve our interest that this is the future we want and we want to measure the goals and how they can be achieved and monitor it to ensure that it is done”.

He said that politicians were good at protecting their future but would not care about the future of the masses.

The university don said that Nigerians should define and get the future they want through those elected in government.

He said this could be done through groups which would spearhead the process.

He said that it was not enough for Nigerians to choose their leader saying that they needed to choose their own future and get the future they needed.

He said the future Nigerians seek should be future that would lift all Nigerians.

He also said that Nigerians should connect with  those in diaspora to improve the well-being of the country. 

He said security challenges facing the country had specific features and appealed to security agencies to demystify security issues facing the country.

He appealed to Nigerians not to return to mistakes made in the past saying that they must ensure that their future is settled.
