The people of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State may soon have relief on the issue of incessant sea pirates attack and kidnapping of passengers on their water ways.
This follows the arrest and subsequent parade of one Baridula Gbolo, from Bodo town in Gokana local Government area of State by the Police.
Mr Gbolo whose gang is believed to be terrorizing Bonny water ways in Rivers State was arrested last week Tuesday following discrete investigation by the Police.
Parading the suspect, the Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police command SP Nnamdi Omoni stated that following the kidnap of boat passengers on last Monday and Tuesday consecutively, the Police commenced investigation and on the cause of investigation, the Police invited one of the driver of the boat whose passengers were kidnapped and told the Police he knew the identity of one of the kidnappers.
SP Omoni disclosed that the suspect Mr Gbolo was arrested following discrete investigation and eight of the victims were released in a bush in Bolo in Ogu/Bolo Local Government area.
SP Omoni further disclosed that the suspect is helping the Police in process of investigation.
The suspect Mr Gbolo who spoke to Journalist confessed his involvement in the matter.
The suspect explained that he is a boat driver and decided to join ‘T-money’ and ‘Diladin’ two members of the gang to kidnap boat passengers last Monday and Tuesday consecutively.
The suspect also revealed that he is also the logistics officer as he gets food for the victims.
The suspect also disclosed that they went to the operation with an AK 47 and a pump action rifle.
As at press time efforts are on by the Police to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
