Kenpoly Governing Council Chairman Rejects FG’s Appointment
The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka has declined the Nigerian government’s appointment to serve as member of a committee to produce a 10-year football development plan for the country.
Making the rejection in a letter dated 12 October, 2021 which he addressed to the Honourable Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja, Chief Amiesimaka made reference to an earlier letter of offer which was dated September 7, 2021.
In his words, I refer to your letter FMYSD/NFF/CORR/ 014/VOL IV of 7th September, 2021 and state without equivocation that beyond clichés and perfunctory responses, but consistent with my natural disposition, I always feel honoured to be considered worthy to serve my beloved country in any capacity”.
Amiesimaka, an ex-football international, who won laurels in his playing days with the defunct Green Eagles of Nigeria, earned the nickname ‘Chief Justice’ because of his mesmerizing style of play.
Known for his astuteness and unwavering principles on matters of integrity, Amiesimaka thanked the Minister for the considered offer of appointment, even as he categorically declined the offer.
“Nevertheless, it is apposite to recall that carefully thought through reports on similar subjects by other committees, some of which I was privileged to serve on, were received with high commendation by the authorities, only to gather dust”, he said.
Chief Amiesimaka said he had lost faith in the ability of the authorities to implement recommendation given to it.
He said: “Regrettably, there is no indication whatsoever that things will be any different this time around”.
The respected Okrika-born Amiesimaka said it was on account of this apparent loss of confidence that “I respectfully decline your kind offer, as to do otherwise would amount to a waste of my time and public funds”.
