Ikwerre LGA Holds Christmas Carol To Express Gratitude To God
…As Council Chairman Says Local Government Area Was Honoured As Best Local Government in Nigeria
Ikwerre Local Government Council in Rivers State held Christmas Carol on Monday to express gratitude to God for the peace in the state and local government area and for achievements made by the executive Chairman, Chief Engr Samuel Nwanosike.
The event which held at the local government area headquarters Isiokpo attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, clerics and people of the local government area.
There was praise session and dance by the people of the local government area led by the Chairman of the local government area.
In opening remarks, the executive Chairman of the local government area, Chief Engr Nwanosike said that the event was to praise God for accomplishments made by the council and for peace in the state.
He said: “Today the 13th day of December is a special day in our lives because it is the day God gave us a man called Governor Ezebuwon Nyesom Wike so today as a local government council we decided that we will gather here to thank God for everything He has done for us as Rivers people, to thank him for seeing us through from the 1st of January till date, to thank him for bringing peace in Rivers State and bringing peace in Ikwerre local government, to thank him for the good health and all the wonderful achievements He has given to us as a people”.
Chief Engr Nwanosike said that the local government area was recently honoured by the University of Lagos as the Best Local Government Area in the country.
He said: “For all the little efforts we have been putting, God has made it so loud that even three days ago in University of Lagos Ikwerre Local Government was given a Platinum Award as Best Local Government in 774 Local Governments in Nigeria and so we have every reason to keep thanking God.”
The Archbishop of Niger Delta Province and Bishop of Ikwerre Diocese, Bishop Blessing Eyindah, JP, in a sermon entitled “God Is Here” said by the event the council Chairman declared that God was in the local government area and commended him for obeying God’s leading and organizing the event.
He said the title implied a proclamation of Christmas meaning the boy Jesus saying that through Jesus God became man to save the world.
He also said that the council Chairman deserved every honour bestowed on him.
Rivers State Government House Choir and one from St. Martins’ Anglican Church, Omagwa performed at the event.
Leaders ranging from political, traditional to clergy spoke at the event.
The Chairman of the state branch of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Most Special Apostle Stanley Dimkpa, said that the Chairman was waxing strong in serving humanity and God.
The Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. (Mrs) Fortune Okah, thanked the Chairman for the good working environment.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the local government area, Hon. Dennis Amadi, in remarks said the people of the local government area were not mistaken in voting for the Chairman saying that he was a visionary leader.
Also to speak were Prof. Simeon Achinewu, King Blessing Wagor, the Chairman of NULGE and Leader of the Legislative Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nwobuisi Chikwu Tasie, who said that the Chairman has made the people to hope in democracy, including others.
