The Rivers State Police command has paraded a suspected Vikings cult leader and other criminals.
Briefing Journalists on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emeka Nwonyi said a team of operatives of Anti-Cultism Unit of the Command, last week Saturday, acting on credible information, stormed a criminal hideout at Bumu Tai, in Tai LGA of Rivers State and arrested one Kenneth Mkpeh, a male who is a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
He said one portable English-made Baretta pistol was recovered from him and upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that he bought the pistol from one Mr Ishmaila Lee, a Philipino that works in a fertilizer company in, Lagos State .
Similarly, operatives of Rivers State Police Command attached to Anti-cultism Unit, last week Friday at about 235:6hours, while on patrol along Rukpokwu Market, stopped a Toyota Corolla, ash colour with Reg. No. SMK 476 DP registered in Lagos, with three occupants, Loveday Friday, 26years, all residents of Igwuruta, Rivers State
CP Nwonyi said on conducting a search of the said car, one locally made pistol, two live cartridges, two expended cartridges, and two masks were recovered from the suspects.
In a other development, the Rivers Police Boss said Rapid Response Team (RRT) operatives of the Command, last week Saturday 17/6/2023 at about hours arrested one Mr Maduabuchi Ali,24years of age, along Station Road, Port Harcourt.
CP Nwonyi said cartridge, a vehicle tyre and some car accessories were recovered from the suspects.
CP Nwonyi said, operatives of Special Area Division, received a report from One Nwankwo Jude of NTA Road Mbuoba, that he parked his Toyota Camry Car, Black in Color with registration number ABJ 74 AE along their street, suddenly he heard a noise, immediately he came out and saw a stranger driving his car away.
He said the owner of the vehicle raised an alarm, and a patrol team at Rumuigbo, swiftly intercepted, and arrested the suspect, one Enobong Maffet, 32years, from Akwa Ibom State.
CP Nwonyi further disclosed that last week Saturday at about 1020hours, Police operatives of the Command, received a distress at Obiwali Road, who reported that three young men brought in a blood-stained gold Toyota Camry without a plate number, for respray at a mechanic workshop.
According to CP Nwonyi, Police operatives immediately mobilized to the scene, but unfortunately, the hoodlums had already escaped while the vehicle was recovered.
The CP also revealed that last week Sunday, operatives of C4i Intelligence Unit, acting on a tip-off, swung into action and arrested one Osinachi Ngwakwe, male aged 21years, a native of Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State but resident at Rumukwurusi, Port Harcourt.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a four-man gang that specializes in armed robbery and had been terrorizing Port Harcourt and its environs.
The Rivers Commissioner of Police said operational vehicle, one Toyota Sienna Car with Reg No. LND 320 HF, was recovered.
He added that the suspect is in police custody for a discreet investigation with a view to apprehending other members of the gang and recovering their operational weapons.
