…As Rivers State Elections Tribunal Strikes Out Suage Badey’s Petition

The Rivers State Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Port Harcourt on Monday dismissed the petition filed by Hon. Suage Alexander Badey of Accord Party against the election of Dr. Barinada Mpigi of the PDP to the Senate in the 2019 general election.

The Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Malami Dodondaji dismissed the petition consequent upon a motion seeking the withdrawal of the petition, brought by Mr. Didi, counsel to Hon. Suage Badey, Chief Baride Gwezia, counsel to Dr. Mpigi didn’t oppose the motion.

Hon. Suage Badey who was the senatorial candidate of the Accord Party had gone to the tribunal to challenge the declaration of Dr. Barinada Mpigi as winner of the 2019 senatorial for the Rivers South-East Senatorial District, but later changed his mind.

The petitioner declared that his decision to withdraw the petition was based on his personal convictions to concede to the wishes of the people and support Dr. Mpigi to fulfill his mandate.
