CPP Boosts Wike, Obuah’s Sanitation Efforts

…Clears Mile 1 Flyover Of Grasses, Debris

Impressed by Governor Wike and Felix Obuah’s efforts in keeping Rivers environment clean through the monthly environmental sanitation exercises, a social political pressure group, Coalition of Political Parties (CPP) for Governor Wike/Obuah leadership styles, last week Thursday indulged in massive cleaning of Mile1 Flyover, clearing it of grasses and debris that littered the area.

Arriving the area as early as 8;00am with their working instruments such as cutlasses, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, brooms and others, members of CPP worked so hard, and by the time they finished around 1;00pm, Mile1 Flyover, particularly, the portion that was hitherto used by hair-dressers, shoe makers, hawkers of all category, touts, pickpockets, etc, but which had been fenced round by the State government, wore a new look.

It should be noted that despite the fencing, traders, hawkers and passersby, still throw all sorts of rubbish into the area, making it unhygienic and unhealthy.

Speaking to National Network during the exercise, Elder Johnny Chinda, Chairman, Coalition of Political Parties said, they carried out the cleanup to support the State government’s efforts at keeping the environment clean, while lauding the leadership styles of Governor Wike and Felix Obuah, the boss of Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA). He said the exercise was a voluntary service, which they had been carrying out from time to time.

Hon. Kukang Ledum Joseph, Secretary-General/Initiator of the body said the exercise was part of their community services  and contributions towards a safe, clean and healthy environment for all, stressing that their members undertook it in appreciation of Governor Wike and Felix Obuah’s leadership styles.

In a statement he cosigned with the chairman, Elder Chinda, Ledum said the exercise will be a routine one aimed at curbing the incessant dumping of waste and other garbages at the Mile1 Flyover.

Besides creating awareness on the need for a healthy environment, the Secretary General of CPP disclosed that his group also undertakes political sensitization and health awareness programmes aimed at educating the public to know their rights.
