RSHA Passes Arbitration, Multi Door Courthouse Bills into Law

The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed into law the two Executive Bills seeking, among other things, to shorten the time witnessed during litigations in the State.

The two Bills, which are the Arbitration Bill 2018 and the Multi Door Courthouse Bill 2018 were passed into law on the floor of the House after the House reverted from the Committee of the whole.

The Chairman of the Committee of the whole and Speaker, Ikwuiyi Owaji Ibani, while reporting back what transpired at the Committee, disclosed that the inputs of stakeholders at the public hearings held for the two Bills were well considered by members of the Committee.

Mr Ibani said it was agreed that the reports were well articulated while issues and observations were properly handled.

According to him, section 12:1 of the bill clearly defined who an arbitrator is, while a new section 24 should be created in the multi door courthouse law.

With the two bills passed into law, they are  expected to open up the Justice delivery system in the State and allow litigants to have quick dispensation and resolution of issues as well as offer them opportunities to resolve issues themselves, if they so desire.
