Killing Of Soldiers: Abonnema Monarch Denounces Killing, Absolves Subjects

The Amanyanabo of Abonnema, King Disrael Gbobo Bob-Manuel has condemned the killing of two soldiers in the community last weekend by unknown gunmen, describing the action as barbaric and disheartening.

The Abonnema monarch, who was reacting to the gory incident which came on the heels of the killing of an army lieutenant in the community during the rescheduled Presidential election last week, however

said the killers of the military men were not from his community.

He asserted: “The information I am getting is that criminal elements attacked the military check points between Obonoma and Abonnema and killed soldiers.

”We are taken aback at this news, we condemn it in its entirety, this is not the attitude of our people because we have lived with the military for years.

 “We are shocked about these attacks on military, I am telling you that the people who killed the military men are not our people. They are criminals who invade our community from time to time for oil bunkering and stealing of other valuables.

“They are bandits who cause us trouble; we are pained by the development. We have asked our people to be vigilant and report any ties for fear of reprisal attack by the army, to return home, adding that the army presence in Abonnema was for peace keeping and not to kill the people.

Meanwhile, the Akuku-Toru chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has joined in condemning the killing of military men in the area.

Chairman of the party in the area, Hon. Ere Manuel said the recent spate of killings and wanton destruction of properties in the area should be condemned by all people of good conscience. 

The AKULGA PDP Chairman, in a statement expressed worries over the killing, describing it as a calculated attempt by enemies of democracy to cause panic, fear and restiveness ahead of the Governorship and State Assembly election coming up on Saturday.
