Military Onslaught On Rivers People Unprecedented, Condemnable,  Says Chukumati

…Calls For Mass Protest

A third Republic Senator, Sen. Noble Chukumati who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District has called for mass protest against what he called the conspiracy between AAC, INEC and the military to deny Rivers people their mandate.

Speaking with newsmen over the weekend in Port Harcourt, he made it clear that what is happening is undemocratic, unprecedented and condemnable by all well meaning Nigerians.

He further stated that the military have no right to be involved in the electoral process for whatever reason. “It is only the police that has the constitutional function to be involved in electoral activities and it is for security of lives and property and not to be actively involved in the manipulation of the process to favour a particular candidate”.

Sen. Chukumati made it known that Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has no competitors and was already coasting home to victory before the unholy intervention.

Not even the introduction of the unknown AAC candidate is a threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whatever the INEC intervention committee is working on will not stand as according to him Rivers people have renewed Governor Wike’s mandate on March 9, 2019.

He described the arbitrary and reckless display of power, arrest, harassment and detention as an attempt to cause crisis in the state, calling on stakeholders to intervene before it’s too late.

He recalled that in Algeria the people were united in the rejection of their sick president who requested for another tenure in office.

“And so for many days they were peacefully demonstrating, the development which eventually is making in road into the crisis. So, I demand that Rivers people should come out emnasse to peacefully protest this evil machinations against the system”.

On the action of former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Chukumati said it is unfortunate that Amaechi will be the one to lead foreigners to kill his own people, asking to no one in particular, “If he finished killing and maiming everybody who will he lead?

The PDP chieftain used the opportunity to call on President Muhammadu Buhari as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to call back the military to their barracks in the interest of the nascent democracy.

According to him, “We are in democratic era and if for anything it is the police who are authorized to be involved in electoral duties for protection and nothing else. The situation where one sees a soldier climbing fence to steal ballot boxes and wielding guns against the frightened voters is uncalled for.

He made it clear that anything short of declaring Governor Wike as the winner of the suspended announcement of the result will not only be resisted by the people but will cause  avoidable crisis in the state.

The Rumuigbo born politician stated further that what the military is doing in conjunction with the INEC officials is nothing but a coup against democracy which he noted, will spell doom to the country.

Senator Chukumati disagreed with those who believe that President Buhari is wicked and callous because of his military background.

“On the contrary, Buhari is just a wicked and callous man who has an evil agenda, if his re-election to the second term is a true reflection of Nigeria people’s mindset, then he wouldn’t have gotten a second chance, after all rtd Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, a military man conducted a free, fair and credible transitional election in 1999 that ushered in this democracy without involving the military into the electoral process.
