2019: World Water Day: NBC Records Giant Strides In Water Sustainability

In line with the United Nations’ call for fresh water for all by 2030, the Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd says besides investing in programmes and partnership that help build better communities around the world, it is also making frantic efforts to ensure that those communities have access to clean water.

The management of the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) stated this during this year’s World Water Day celebration in Port Harcourt Wednesday.

Having in mind that Port Harcourt is one of the hardest hit cities in Nigeria when it comes to water pollution, and one of its operational bases, the NBC according to its Public Affairs and Communications Director, Ekuma Eze, has been giving the issue the deserved attention.

Mr. Eze said besides producing the best water for the company’s use since all its activities depend on water as major component, the NBC has also fully functional effluent treatment plant which ensures that the water discharged from the plant is completely harmless to the environment.

Recall that the NBC is one out of other numerous companies operating in the Trans-Amadi Industrial Area including the famous slaughter market which water and other wastes are discharged into the Oginigba river.

The Oginigba community has not only cried out of pollution of the river for drinking but also the destruction of its aquatic life thereby depriving the people of both drinking water and their primary occupation – fishing.

In their separate speeches, the member of Rivers State House of Assembly, and Chairman, Committee on Environment, Christian Ahiakwo, Uche Anucha, former Special Adviser to the Governor on Pollution Control, the representative of the Ministry of Environment and the traditional ruler of Oginigba Community among others lauded the Nigerian Bottling Company for blazing the trail in ensuring that their operations meet up international best practices.

The theme for this year’s World Water Day is “Leaving no one Behind”.
