APC Presidential Campaign Rally Stampede: Magnus Abe Opens Up

…Indicts Amaechi

The last of the remote causes of the stampede that claimed scores of lives of innocent persons and Rivers citizens at the ill-fated All Progressives Congress, APC, presidentially campaign rally Tuesday, February 12, 2019 is yet to be heard.

This is as the Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, and one of the factional governorship candidates of the APC, Magnus Ngei Abe pointed accusing fingers at the Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

Aggrieved Abe who regretted the indifference of the APC leadership to the victims of the stampede, said it was very obvious that the stampede occurred when people started leaving the stadium as Amaechi was talking.

Instruction, according to the federal lawmaker was given to the security men to lock up the gates and forcefully prevent people from leaving the stadium and in the process people were crushed to death at the gates.

But rather than acknowledge this and join in mourning the deceased Hon. Abe stressed, Amaechi has started accusing ‘me’ of bringing thugs to the stadium to kill Rivers people through press statements by one Chief Eze.

Hon. Abe’s words: “There was a stampede at the stadium during the APC rally in Port-Harcourt, several members of our party across every divide who came to show their support to the President were killed.

“Myself, Senator Ake, serving members of the national and state legislature who were present at the rally were not acknowledged. I pleaded with everyone to hold their peace, Ojukaye was paraded as chairman, we held our peace. We made every sacrifice to ensure there was peace at the event.

“Amaechi, got on the rostrum and started insulting all of us, we held our peace.

“The only thanks we get is a statement by Amaechi through Chief Eze, that I brought thugs to the stadium to kill Rivers people. I am shocked beyond words.

“At a time when we should come together in mourning, this is the statement that Amaechi will sponsor against me?, is that politics?.

“Everyone who was at the stadium saw that the stampede occurred when people started leaving the stadium as Amaechi was talking, an instruction was given to the security men to lock the gates and forcefully prevent Rivers people from leaving the stadium, in the process people were crushed to death at the gates.

“A leader that will go to any lengths to spread devilish lies against an innocent man because of politics, and sponsor this kind of wickedness does not deserve our respect. People should fear God, if any of this aggrieved families come after me based on that write up, will Amaechi pretend that he does not remember that he is godfather to my son?.

“These people clearly want me dead for no reason other than my insistence that the rights of party members in Rivers state be respected.

“It’s politics gone too far, but at the end of the day the rights of party members in Rivers state will be respected”.
