Gokana Agog Over Wike’s Victory
It was celebration at its peak recently as the people of Gokana took to the streets celebrating Governor Nyesom Wike on his well deserved re-election for a second term.
The celebration was organized by the 16 Councillors representing the area. They marched through major roads across the various communities in Gokana from Kpopie Junction, the take-off point to Kpor, the council headquarters singing songs of praise unto God for His good works.
Motorists and other road users in the area were trapped for several hours in the heavy traffic caused by the mammoth crowd especially on Kpopie, Bodo road, the only major road that links Gokana communities together.
Speaking to journalists on the occasion, the leader of Gokana Legislative Assembly, Hon. Samuel Barime Menekpe said they were excited over the re-election of Governor Wike, that is why they have come together to hold what he described as “Victory Walk” across the length and breadth of Gokana to celebrate him.
He noted that Wike did well during his first four years in office, hence the massive support for him by the people at the polls. He expressed optimism that he is going to bring all round development to the state as he takes over again.
Mr. Samuel who assured that the victory was a sustainable one said, “We call him (Wike) Gbere dom kpe, meaning a male lion, so the victory is going to stand as they have declared him”. He described him as a good man that has the love of the people at heart, stressing that Gokana people will ever remain grateful to him for appointing their sons and daughters into positions of trust.
While advising the youths and the entire people of Gokana to remain calm and law abiding, he promised to use his position as a lawmaker to attract constant light to the area as well as free acquisition training for the youths including free education. He maintained that he would work with the local government Chairman to make Gokana Local Government one of the best in the country.
