…As Police Acquire Forensic Equipment To  Investigate Crimes

Rivers State Police Command has acquired forensic equipment that will help in investigation of high-profile cases like murder and armed robbery and also help in gathering evidence.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni who disclosed this in an interview at Police Headquarters, Moscow Road, Port-Harcourt, said the acquisition of the equipment would make investigation of serious crimes a lot easier.

DSP Omoni said: “As part of the effort to serve the people of Rivers State better and to stem the tide of criminality in the state, we have acquired sophisticated devices that will assist and aid our investigation. For instance, in conducting forensic analysis, we have the men that can carry out the analysis”.

He said before now the police in Rivers State used to go to Lagos to carry out forensic analysis but said the equipment were now available in Rivers State to be used by police in the state.

The police imagemaker said: “Before this time, we used to go to Lagos to get it done but now the equipment are all here and we are deploying them effectively to serve the state better. With acquisition of these equipment, our investigation of high-profile cases like murder, armed robbery and very serious cases of rape will be made a lot easier”.

He said the state police command also acquired equipment which could do tracking.

It will be recalled that Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Dandaura, said in his maiden press briefing that he would declare total war against criminals in Rivers State.

His Words: “Let me state clearly that I am here in the state to fight crime to a standstill in line with the IGP’s directive of cascading the Operation Puff Adder in all the Commands across the country… I have the mandate… to fight the monsters of cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery, murder and pipeline vandalism bedevilling the state”.

He also said: “I shall tackle these crimes headlong and bring them to a tolerable level. Rivers State will no longer be conducive for criminals.  Therefore, they have the option of relocating, repenting or face the full wrath of the law. I promise to declare a total war against violent crimes in the state”.

The police boss said Rivers State is strategic to Nigeria’s economic well-being stressing it therefore required so much to be put in to fight security challenges in Rivers State.
