Three Arrested As Ex-Minister’s Son Regains Freedom
Dayo, son of the immediate past Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, has been released, The PUNCH can exclusively report.
It could, however, not be confirmed if a ransom was paid or not for his release.
Dayo was released barely 24 hours after he was kidnapped on his farm in Iroko near Fiditi in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State on Tuesday.
An aide to the ex-minister, however, confirmed to our correspondent that Dayo was released on Wednesday evening.
He said, “He regained freedom just this evening and he is with his family in Ibadan. Details are still sketchy but we will issue a statement soon.”
The kidnappers, who reportedly wore facial masks took away Dayo, escaping through the neighbouring village.
One of Dayo’s workers then alerted the villagers who quickly sent hunters after the kidnappers. The hunters found the car used by the kidnappers but neither Dayo nor any of the abductors were found.
The village head, Oniroko of Iroko, made a phone call on a radio programme to alert the public.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone 11, Leye Oyebade; Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu; and Garrison Commander, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Brig Gen O.O. Soleye, on Wednesday visited the scene where Dayo was abducted.
Spokesman for the police in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, who said this, also confirmed the arrest of three persons in connection with the abduction of the ex-minister’s son.
