Rivers Police Commissioner Orders Increased Security Patrol On East-West Road

…As Police Rescue 6 Kidnap Victims

The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Usman Belel, has ordered that there should be an increased security patrol on the East-West Road to “stem the tide” of kidnapping.

This was revealed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, in an online statement.

Meanwhile, the statement said that “operatives” of Rumuji Police Station in Emohua Local Government Area of the state rescued six kidnap victims on Sunday in an operation which was led by the Rumuji Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ademola Adebayo.

DSP Omoni said that the police team stormed a forest in Evekwu in Emohua local government area and rescued the six kidnap victims, who are two males and four females, saying that four of the victims were Youths Corps members.

He gave the names of the six rescued victims as Onyema Easter Ogechi, f,  Nnaji Choima, f, Ogeh Florence, f, Akinduro Abel, m, Franklin Ayama, f, and Akinpelu Solomon, m,.

He said that the victims were travelling from Lagos to Port-Harcourt in a commercial bus when they were kidnapped last week, saying that they were rescued without any harm done to them.

DSP Omoni said: “The victims, including four youth corpers are those abducted last week in a commercial bus travelling from Lagos to Port-Harcourt. They were however rescued unhurt and have been debriefed. Families have been contacted for necessary handover”.

The police spokesman further said in the online statement that a notorious kidnapper who is also an armed-robbery kingpin, Zulu Ogwumike also known as “Black Bush,” was killed by  police operatives of Rumuji Police Station in a gun battle.

He said that the fight against crime in Rivers State by the police would continue until it is wiped out.
