Rivers NAWOJ Holds Press Week

In pursuant of her mandate which among others is to ensure the wellbeing of the women in our society, the Nigeria Association of Women journalists (NAWOJ), Rivers State chapter has lined up programmes to mark this year’s annual press week.

In a statement signed by the chairperson of the association, Mrs Lilian Okonkwo- Ogabu and the secretary Daba Benebo, the event will hold from 4th to 7th of July 2019.

 The Week which which came under the theme “Clean-up OGONI Now: Save Our Women”, is geared towards drawing the attention of Government and Multinationational Companies on the urgent need to clean up the Niger Delta as recommended by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and promised by the Federal Government of Nigeria, while also creating awareness on the dangers and effects of the air pollution on human beings especially women and children.

The weeklong event which is being done in partnership with the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC), a non governmental organization advocating for the clean-up of the  Niger Delta especially Ogoni land will be chaired by the patron of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State council, Prince Emma Anyanwu.

The statement further said that the event will feature  a keynote address by a renowned Professor, Environmentalist, and the immediate past commissioner for Environment, Prof. Roseline Konya while His Royal Majesty (HRM)’ King Samuel Amaechi is the Royal Father of the day and enjoined all journalists, and civil Society organizations to attend the event.
