Despite the signing of peace accord on July 8, 2019 by cult groups in Emohua Local Government area, kidnap of travelers is still taking place, National Network has learnt.
We gathered that 72 hours after cult groups signed peace accord in the local Government area, gunmen suspected to be cultists intercepted a commercial bus enroute Port Harcourt from Ekeki park in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State around Rumuji-Elele axis of Emohua portion of the East West road.
Our source revealed that 16 passengers of the commercial bus were kidnapped and taken into the bush.
Nnamdi Omoni spokesperson of Rivers State Police command while confirming the incident to Journalists stated that the command has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers with a view to rescuing the victims.
It would be recalled that on April 26,2019 gunmen suspected to be kidnappers shot and killed Mr. Jonah Sokolo, a driver of Abua/Odual Mass Transport Company at Rumukpe axis of Emohua in a bid to kidnap passengers of the bus
Also, on April 28, 2019 at Rumuji portion of Emohua an escort security personnel was shot and killed by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers and two Shell workers were kidnapped.
On January 28, 2019 suspected kidnappers shot and killed a driver of Agofure Transport Company at Rumukpe axis of Emohua in a bid to kidnap the passengers of the commercial bus.
On June 17, 2019 six passengers of a sienna bus were kidnapped at Ndele axis of Emohua in the East West road and the spokesperson of Rivers state Police command Nnamdi Omoni confirmed their rescue by the Police on June 24, 2019.
Four among the six persons according to Omoni Nnamdi are Youth Corpers.
The Newly deployed Police Commissioner in Rivers State, Danduara Mustapha in his maiden press briefing on Friday July 12, 2019 revealed that the Police under his leadership will adopt new strategies to curb the menace of kidnapping along the Emohua Local Government area of the East West road.
The Emohua and Ikwerre local Government axis of the East West road in Rivers state have become very notorious for cases of hijack and kidnap of travelers
