Rivers Assembly To Investigate NDPR  Activities

The Rivers State House of Assembly has resolved to carry out a full scale investigation of the activities of an indigenous oil company, Niger Delta Petroleum Resources (NDPR)  operating OML 54 in Ogbele community in Ahoada East Local Government Area.

This was sequel to petition against it by the youths, traditional Rulers, religious Rulers and members of the host community that were presented on the House.

Deputy speaker, Hon. Ehie Edison, while presenting the petition on behalf of the Indigenes of the Host community, said the company has been defrauding the Rivers State Government and explained that since it commenced oil exploration two decades ago, NDPR has being evading tax.

Edison also revealed that the company has victimised and marginalised the people of the area and has failed to remit its 5% trust fund to the community and state government.

The lawmaker representing Ahoada East Constituency 2 further disclosed that the people of the host community have benefitted little or nothing from NDPR as the company has abandoned their responsibilities in ensuring the development of its host Community.

He prayed among other things that the House should visit the area and ascertain the level of exploration and exploitation going on in the area.

The petition which was signed by the youth president of Upata kingdom, comrade Livingstone Alali was committed to an Ad hoc committee for full scale hearing and investigation by the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Ikunyi Uwaji Ibani.
