Court Grants Bail To 19-year-old Stealing Suspect
A Port-Harcourt Magistrate Court has granted bail to a nineteen-year-old man, Mahamadu Isah, charged with stealing three bags of crayfish from Mrs. Ruth Obiobare at Creek Road Market in Port-Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The one-count charge preferred against the accused person who was brought to court on Monday, July 29 said that his behaviour was contrary to Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 37, Vol II, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.
The accused, in pleading to the charge, however said he was not guilty.
The three bags of crayfish which the accused allegedly stole from the plaintiff who was a trader at Creek Road Market in Port-Harcourt were worth the sum of One Hundred and Five Thousand Naira (105,000.00).
Isah was arraigned in court by the Rivers State Police Command in case number PMC/1463C/2019 between the Commissioner of Police and Mahamadu Isah, 19.
Both the plaintiff and the accused were in court on Monday, presided by Senior Magistrate Lenu S. Baridam who granted the accused person bail and adjourned the case to 25 September, 2019 for hearing.
The court granted bail to the accused in the sum of one hundred thousand naira (100,000.00) and one surety who was asked to sign an affidavit and submit two passport photographs and one valid ID card.
It also ordered prosecutor in the case, Inspector Ochogwu Wilberforce, to confirm the address of the surety.
Isah who is on bail is expected back in court on 25 September.
