Gunmen Kidnap Man, Four Days To Child’s Dedication

Residents of Rumuekini Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area are now living in fear following the invasion of the home of a senior female police officer in the area last Wednesday, by unknown gunmen.

An anonymous caller from the neighborhood told our reporter that the gunmen who laid ambush for the husband of the officer, simply known as Bolaji, followed him while he drove into the compound.

Our source revealed that the husband, on sighting the gunmen hastily locked himself inside the vehicle but had to open the door when the criminals threatened to shoot him.

We further gathered that the gunmen shot sporadically when a brother of the victim raised the alarm, ostensibly to draw the attention of residents.  But the emboldened kidnappers did not waste a second as they took the man away with his car.

National Network gathered that Mr. Bolaji’s car was recovered by the Police around Isiokpo/Omagwa Junction in Ikwerre Local Government Area, two days after the incident.

However, the suspected kidnappers are said to have made contact with the family and are demanding an undisclosed huge sum of money.

The abduction of the victim on Wednesday dealt a double blow to the family as the ugly incident aborted the child’s dedication ceremony of two months old baby of the couple.  The event was billed to hold last Sunday at a parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) within Rumuekini.

Reports reaching National Network indicate that the female officer had fled her home with two of their children after the abduction of her husband and has not been seen since then.

Investigations showed that the vigilante group who were contracted by residents to provide security for the area had stopped work some weeks ago owing to alleged misunderstanding with residents.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, when contacted, was yet to respond to text messages sent to him on the incident, neither did he pick his calls placed across to him at the time of filling this report.
