The Eze Eberi Ugo IX of Ancient Eberi Omuma and Paramount ruler of Eberi Omuma Kingdom, King (Barr) Onyekachi K. Amaonwu J,P. has appealed to traditional rulers in Etche Ethnic Nationality to always maintain peace in their various domains as it is the only way their positions as traditional rulers can be respected.
The monarch who is one of the latest government-recognized traditional rulers in Rivers State, following the presentation of staff of office by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to him and other traditional rulers recently, said where traditional rulers are at loggerheads with one another, it would be impossible for the people they are ruling to be at peace.
The Eberi Omuma monarch who stated this when the Executive members of Ogbakor Etche; a social cultural organization of Etche Nation led by the President General, Sir Machy Nwodim paid him and his Council of Chiefs a courtesy visit is his palace recently, stressed that the solution to chieftaincy wrangling is to allow the Clans to be addressed as Divisions while the Local Government Areas assume the name of Area Councils.
Debunking the rumor that Omuma is not Etche, the paramount ruler stressed that the youths need to be sensitized for them to know that Omuma is part and parcel of Etche.
King Amaonwu who is a member of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, used the occasion to commend Governor Wike for presenting staff of office to him even as he poured encomium on the leadership of Ogbakor Etche for bringing back the lost glory of the organization to admirable standard, especially working in synergy with the police to tackle the security challenges in the area.
Earlier in his address, the President General of Ogbakor Etche, Sir Machy Nwodim expressed delight over the warm reception accorded them and further expressed concern over the name Etche Divisional Council of Tradition Rulers and Chiefs which, he maintained, is not in the line with the provisions of Rivers State Traditional Rulers Law No.4 of 2015 and appealed to the King to use his position as a legal practitioner to address the anomaly with a view to use a suitable name that can accommodate all the chiefs in Etche Nation into an umbrella of unity and love.
The President General also tasked the King to teach the youths the history of Etche and make them to understand that creation of Omuma Local Government area out of Etche does not make them non-Etche people, and further informed the King that the “Obiri” Etche situated at Umugwu–Okehi which is the property of all Etche people is ready for use for all Etche people.
In a Vote of Thanks, Chief (Hon) Joshua Obiajunwa Ukala JP, thanked the Omuma monarch for maintaining a cordial relationship with the chiefs, while commending the Ogbakor Etche Executive for abandoning their tight schedules to seek for peace, development and growth of Etche Nation especially on their efforts to bring Governor Wike as special guest at the last Ogbakor Etche convention.
He thanked the Governor for his donation to Ogbakor Etche and commended the President General of Ogbakor Etche for making Etche people proud towards the proper utilization of Governor Wike’s donation.
