Secretary Of RSU Postgraduate Students’ Union In Trouble For Allegedly Faking Own Kidnap

The secretary of Postgraduate students’ Union of Rivers State University (RSU), Mr. Waribo Boma is being detained at Nkpolu Divisional Police headquarters in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt for allegedly faking his own kidnap.

An eyewitness and former executive of Students Union Government (SUG) of the university told National Network on condition of anonymity that Mr. Boma was whisked away by some men while at a postgraduate relaxation hall on the campus last Friday.

The eyewitness revealed that the secretary of the union allegedly made calls to close friends that he had been kidnapped on campus. He said the development drew the attention of the Rivers State Governor, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, who called on the school management to ensure the supposed kidnapped victim was released.

The source said president of the postgraduate students’ union Shepherd Fubara and other executives of the union who before the incident had misunderstanding with Mr. Boma were questioned by the police.

He said the way in which the supposed kidnap victim re-surfaced after some hours triggered suspicion and upon interrogation by police, confessed to have faked his own kidnap.  

An online video which went viral showed the student been flogged by plain clothed policemen and a former Man O’ War personnel in Rivers State University. The video showed the student was dealt with at Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters for faking his own kidnap. He was made to lie down on the floor and flogged severally by the former paramilitary officer at Nkpolu Police Station. He was however later released, according to a source that pleaded anonymity.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni did not respond to text messages sent him by our reporter over the incident and did not also pick calls made to his mobile line.

When contacted, the president of the Postgraduate students’ union told our reporter via a text message that he was at a seminar and could not respond to our enquiries, but promised to call back to give response on the incident, he was yet to respond as at the time of filing this report.
