Expressing worry over the state of the infrastructures in Government owned schools, the principal of Government Secondary School Umuagbai, in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, Martha Jack has appealed to Government at all levels to assist in rebuilding the dilapidated structures in the school.
She made the appeal while receiving free books from the lawmaker representing Oyigbo Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Promise Nwankwo.
She disclosed that the students face serious challenges during external examinations due to infrastructural decay in the school stressing that the school does not have standard laboratory and library.
The principal who commended the efforts of Government so far in ameliorating their problems stressed the need for Government to do more and called on other public office holders to come to their aid.
She however lauded the lawmaker for the gesture which she said would go a long way in eliminating the suffering of some parents who are not financially bouyant to cater for the educational needs of their children.
On his part, the principal of Government Junior Secondary School Oyigbo, Mr Nwala Azubuike, while thanking the lawmaker for the free books donation appealed to him to present their problems before the floor of the House so that they can get immediate attention from Government.
Earlier the lawmaker while donating thirteen thousand free books to Government Secondary school, Umuakpai, and Government Junior Secondary both in Oyigbo local Government Area of Rivers State had called on teachers to be more effective in discharging their duties.
The lawmaker who disclosed that his passion for education motivated him to donate the free books to the students, advised them to be hardworking and focus on their studies.
Expressing hope that the future Governors, technocrats and captains of industries shall emerge from among them, Promise Nwankwo told the students that studying in the rural area is not a disadvantage but a blessing.
Some of the students who expressed happiness commended the lawmaker for the gesture pointing out that the books will go a long way in boosting their morale for learning.
