Flood Victims Send SOS To RSG

The people of Ozochi, Ikata and Ochigba Communities in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State have cried out to Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike to come to their aid by urgently addressing the threats of flood in their communities.

Speaking with National Network on the development, the youth leader of Ozochi Community, Mr. Uche Esor Adamu said the victims are really suffering, although the council chairman of Ahoada East LGA, Hon. Ben Eke has tried his best but added that National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) and the State Government  should send relief materials to the flood victims”.

Mr. Adamu further added that farmlands in the affected communities have been covered with deluge from the flood, regretting that cassava which is their main source of food had been seriously damaged and fearing that by December they would scarcely have food to eat again.

He also appealed to the Government and NEMA to come to their rescue, because the children now suffer from cold just because there is no mattress to sleep on, coupled with mosquito bites in an open camp.

Still speaking the Ozochi Community Chief, Prince Ike said “flood is all about emergency and half of my community is flooded and that made us to move the people to a camp and the Chairman of Ahoada East, Hon. Ben Eke has done the little he can do and is still doing, but it’s not enough, because the children now sleep on the ground because there were no beddings to lie on”.

Mr. Eke also pleaded with NEMA and the State Government to supply drugs to the affected victims who are currently sick as they could not get enough food to eat but could only feed from the little supplied by the local government.

He also lamented that the victims had been in the camp for two weeks now without NEMA showing up. He said he heard that the federal government had disbursed funds to NEMA to send in relief materials but they were yet to do anything about the victims condition as at the time of filing this report.
