…Insists Army Knows His Whereabouts
The family of Prince Fubara of Owerewere, Emughan in Abua central, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State who was arrested at County State School since October 2018 at Abua central by the Nigerian Army has staged a peaceful protest to the headquarters of 6 Division Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt as the whereabouts of their son remains unknown a year after his arrest.
We learned the family of the suspect was received by Major Patience Nwachi, the Head of Human Rights Desk of the 6 Division Nigerian Army last week.
The protesting family wanted the Nigerian Army to give account of the missing suspect who was in their custody since 2018.
A member of the family of the suspect, Francis Okporo, confirmed to our reporter that they were at the Human Rights Desk of the Army to register their complaints.
Mr. Okporo stated that the suspect was last seen while under the custody of the Nigerian Army on 18th October 2018, four days after his arrest. He said the 6 Division Nigerian Army had told the family last year that the suspect had been transferred to 16 Brigade Nigerian Army in Bayelsa state but the authorities of the Army in Bayelsa told the family that there was no such suspect in their custody when the family visited the place.
Meanwhile, a source at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Rivers State Chapter informed our reporter that both 16 Brigade Nigerian Army, Bayelsa State and headquarters of 6 Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt had allegedly told the NHRC that they had no suspect like Prince Fubara in their custody, following a request by NHRC for the Army to produce the suspect in court if he committed any crime.
The family of the suspect is reportedly rattled by the Army’s inconsistency in their responses and called for thorough investigation of the matter.
