…Congratulates Acting VC
The Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC) has congratulated Prof. Opuenebo Binya Owei on her appointment as the first female Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt.
The President of TOPREC, TPL (Emeritus Prof.) Olayiwola T. Egunjobi conveyed the congratulatory message during a courtesy visit on Monday 8th December, 2019 as part of activities for the professional accreditation exercise of the Urban and Regional Planning Department.
Emeritus Prof. Egunjobi congratulated Prof. Owei on her recent enviable feat, noting that her appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor did not come as a surprise to TOPREC, stating that having served as member of the Education and Research Committee & Education Board of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, and the Chairman of the Rivers State branch of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, she will bring her wealth of experience to bear in repositioning the University to achieve the desired goals.
While applauding the Visitor of the University for finding a registered Town Planner worthy to occupy the position of the Vice-Chancellor, he advised the acting Vice-Chancellor to design a master plan for the University campus.
Responding, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Opuenebo Binya Owei thanked TOPREC for the visit and for the congratulatory message. She noted that her appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor is a divine providence from God.
Expressing the University’s readiness for the professional accreditation exercise, Prof. Owei called on the staff in the Urban and Regional Planning Department to be open to TOPREC, stating that they should see the exercise as an avenue to learn from their professional senior colleagues and improve the Department.
