Alleged Cultists Attack Northern Traders, Four Sustain Injury

…As ACF Urged Members To Be Law Abiding

Four persons from the Northern part of the country have sustained several degree of machete cuts when hoodlums suspected to be cultists invaded Suya line in Bendel  street in old Port Harcourt Township last Friday.

The hoodlums who came in their numbers was said to have carted away goods belonging to the traders as the traders scampered for safety. Eyewitnesses say at least four persons were critically injured.

Our source disclosed that the hoodlums fled the scene before the arrival of the Police. The cause of the attack is yet to be ascertained but there is palpable tension in the area.

Confirming the incident in a telephone chat with National Network, the coordinator of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF)  South-South and South–East, Alhaji Musa Saidu  said   the fact that Port Harcourt Police Area Command and Central Police Station (CPS) is just about 500 metres away from the scene of the incident did not hinder the attackers from carrying out their nefarious activities.

Alhaji Saidu who disclosed that at least four persons sustained serious injuries in the incident, added that the attackers came from two waterfront communities around the area.

He urged Hausa traders to remain calm and not to take laws into their hands.

The spokesperson of the Rivers State Police command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Nnamdi Omoni did not pick several calls put across to him to ascertain if the Police is aware of the incident neither did he respond to text messages sent to his mobile line.

At the meantime, many traders who escaped unhurt have recounted their losses to our reporter. The traders called on security agencies especially the Police to beef up security in and around the place to forestall re-occurrence of the attack.
